Galaxy Z Fold 3 may not have a Separate S Pen Slot

Samsung is investing heavily in folding phones this year. The company has announced that it will not have a Galaxy Note series phone in 2021, probably because it wants consumers to get the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3. The foldable phone is expected to be the second device not seen after the Galaxy S21 Ultra which supports S Pen.

Contrary to previous rumors, the device will probably not have a separate pen slot, according to a new report.

Technical aims may make the S Pen slot impossible for Z Fold 3.

The board apparently originally intended to leave room for a pen but, is now reconsidering the idea. This is for two reasons.

First, the device does not have enough space for a pen compartment.

Second, the pen slot can expose it to water and dust damage. Although Samsung foldable phones are not waterproof and dustproof, the Z Fold 2 is seemingly more durable than the OG Fold because it comes with an anti-erosion waterproof coating.

The decision, made recently, is obviously not finalized. The company reportedly has time until mass production begins in June to change it.

Either way, it is likely that the Z Fold 3 will be pen compatible. Samsung will probably offer special masks to accommodate the digital pen, something it has done with the S21 Ultra.

The device will reportedly be unveiled in July, probably along with the Z Flip 3 and Galaxy S21 FE. Their presentation is likely to be slow.

The statement also implies that the S Pen Pro, which was announced along with the S21 Ultra, will run the Z Fold 3.

According to earlier reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be power-driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, which will be attended by at least 256 GB of storage. The phone also boasts a selfie camera under the panel.
