Today LG Officially Stops Producing Mobile Phones

LG announced in April that it was exiting the mobile phone business, and given the time it took to shut down production, today is the last day for smartphones and tablets.

LG will continue to support existing devices, and premium models have three years of software support. Some models, including Q series phones, will get Android 12, while the latest premium models will go a step further with Android 13.

The LG Electronics plant in Vietnam, where most of LG's mobile phones are made, will be transformed into a household appliance plant. LG has already made the transition to some of its production facilities to retain employees in smartphone factories. The remaining workers from the mobile production lines will receive new tasks by the end of July.

The Haifon plant began operations in 2015 and produces televisions and household appliances in addition to mobile phones. The sister companies LG Innotek and LG Display produce cameras and screens in the same location.

With that, LG is on its way to becoming the largest manufacturer of household appliances, and sales in the second quarter are large and amount to 6.3 billion dollars.
